iTunes Music(?) Store

Today, my $50 iTunes Music Card arrived from LG. I went onto the site and tried to think of things that I might want to download.

Here's what I downloaded:

1. What Time Is It (High School Musical)
2. The Big Dollhouse (Hairspray Broadway Cast)
3. Without Love (Hairspray Broadway Cast)
4. Do You Believe In Magic (Ally & AJ)
5. Walking On Sunshine (Ally & AJ)

What Time Is It was good; I'd heard the song before, but it's pretty good so I downloaded it. I decided to download The Big Dollhouse because all the poofs who didn't like the 2007 Hairspray movie reckoned that song should've been in it; and Without Love so I could hear a bit more of the cast.

I was very underwhelmed.  Without Love is supposed to be one of the high points of the movie / play, yet it sounded very lacklustre on this version. And the accents of the characters were annoying - I'd rather watch Kath & Kim for a few hours than watch this cast performing the entire musical.  The Big Dollhouse wasn't anything to write home about (hey, I'm writing home aren't I?). It was funny in one place, but it allowed me to listen to Harvey whatshisname's interpretation of Edna; in particular, his voice.

Horrible! Didn't sound like a woman, didn't even sound like a transvestite. In fact, his Edna voice is a dead-ringer for Mr and Mrs Bighead from Rocko's Modern Life. So much so, in fact, that I've just done a Google search for "Hairspray Rocko's Modern Life" to see if it pulls up that information. Instead, it pulls up a page on Zac Efron which says that his favourite cartoon was Rocko's Modern Life. Spooky or what?  :-)

While I was looking around the music store, there was an ad or something for the Ally & AJ album; I had remembered my old mate Ronald Traino posting about how he'd met them once and was a fan of theirs, so I decided to download two tracks and see what they are like.

I should've been warned by his recent post that he likes Mandy Moore, but anyway I downloaded those two Ally & AJ tracks. Disappointed. The first song (highest popularity rating on iTunes) wasn't very impressive. With the second song, Walking On Sunshine, the girls made it sound like they were walking in mud.  Come on, it's a bubbly, energetic classic, not a freakin' ballad!  I was extremely disappointed. This is equal worst rendition of this song that I've ever heard. Equal to a girl who sang at a Glory game once, where when she did the "Walking on sunshine, whoa-whoa" bit she hit about 5 wrong notes.

I went over to the Audiobooks section, and there was a particular audiobook about Macintoshes that was listed literally 12 times on the front page. Possibly more. Halo effect, my arse.
